Race Categories

The Tri provides several registration categories designed to provide all women with a rewarding triathlon experience. Decide which category is right for you – you’ll be asked to enter this information when registering.

Elite Wave

Register in this category if you have finished in the top three of another triathlon in the past 24 months.

Competitive Wave

Designed to create new challenges for returning athletes, racers can select this wave during registration if they meet ANY of the following criteria:

  • You completed a past Tri for the Cure in 1 hour, 30 minutes or less
  • You placed in the top 20% of another triathlon

There are only 300 competitive spots available, so register now to guarantee yours.  Select "Competitive Wave" in your mail-in or online registration form to participate!

Age Group Waves

Participants will be assigned to a wave based on age. Please be aware that waves are made up of groups of 100 women. Any given age group will have multiple waves depending upon the number of women registering in that age group.  Athletes must be at least 16 years old on August 1, 2012 to participate.

Buddy Wave

If you want to race with a friend, family member or training partner, sign up for the Buddy Category. Since your ages will vary, you will be timed, but you will not be eligible for age group awards. Buddy waves will begin following the Age Group waves and will approach the start in groups of approximately 100 women.

Relay Teams

If you do not want to participate in all three events, sign up with a relay team.  Your team will decide which person will participate in each event.  Only one team member may participate in each event – that is, there cannot be two swimmers in the water from the same team.  However a two-person team will have one member competing in two events.  Learn more about relay teams.

Survivors

The Tri extends special recognition to all cancer survivors competing in the Tri for the Cure. Indicate that you are a survivor on the registration form, and we will honor you and your accomplishments with some additional benefits:

  • Special gifts at the pre-race expo held at Bicycle Village - Aurora
  • Admission to the Survivor Breakfast held at pre-race expo
  • Early entry to packet pickup at pre-race expo
  • Admission to the VIP/Survivor Tent and breakfast buffet on race day
